Many of the descriptions used for foster children are negative, so we wanted to find some positive traits that will serve to inspire current and former foster children to cultivate these traits and use them to create bright futures for themselves. This week, we are focusing on unique, creative, and dreamers.
By simply being foster children, they are unique in the world in that they are not living with their families. Many foster children hate being so different, and want desperately to be "normal"... But as that's not always a possibility, many choose to find something else to be recognized by... Which often leads to the pursuit of creative endeavors.
Many foster children turn to writing or drawing as an outlet for the emotions that they need to find an outlet for. Some lucky enough to have access to a camera, turn to photography. Not all are good at it, but if you have enough practice you find you become quite good at things you don't have a natural affinity for to begin with. Foster children are also dreamers. They dream of a time when foster care is not needed, and they will work hard to see those dreams come true.
People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, "Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner." I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.
