Some former foster youth feel called to change the entire system. These are the people that become guest speakers, bloggers/authors, radio personalities, and even politicians or lobbyists to accomplish their goals. Public foster care reform figures are very rare, and not everyone can be one.
There isn't really a training system or specific opportunity you can find in order to join any of the above listed professions - these are all something you have to be motivated to make happen. Also, you will need to be able to be organized, professional, self-motivated, and outgoing to make any of these positions work out well.
You'll really need to start out small, because to try to jump into larger opportunities without preparation could not only be disastrous (you could have a very public mess up and be extremely embarrassed, not to mention destroy your reputation), but the chances of you even getting ahold of such an opportunity in the beginning is small. If you want to be taken seriously in the foster care community, start out by being a regular in foster care forums. Start up a blog. Write a book if you feel led. Do a vlog or podcast. Gather a following, and go from there onto bigger and better positions. You'll know you've made it when people start asking YOU to accept opportunities, and not the other way around.
Becoming a politician or lobbyist is a little harder than being a writer, radio personality, or speaker. You can't just propel yourself into a position. You have to get votes and gain support. You usually have to be able to round up donations and sweet-talk companies too. I'm not really qualified to explain how to become a lobbyist or politician, so I'll instead defer you to a couple of articles that should get you started.
